BUCKEYSTOWN, MARYLAND
COMPLETION DATE: 2007
$3,428,110 | 18,000 SF
Designed to serve as a meeting center and dining hall for an Episcopal retreat center, the key to this building is creation of flexible spaces. The dining and meeting rooms can be subdivided with operable partition walls and cozy corridor alcoves utilized for solitary reflection or small group gatherings. At the north end of the facility, an existing silo was preserved and converted into a chapel. The building's stone base, board and batten siding, and simple massing allude to an agrarian style. The plan was oriented to showcase breathtaking views of the Monocacy River from screened porches that afford visitors yet another opportunity to gather and reflect.
